About

The UEA Experimental Philosophy Group is an interdisciplinary research group that brings together researchers from the humanities and the social sciences. Our projects create new intellectual tools to address longstanding philosophical questions as well as sustainable development goals.

The interdisciplinary field of experimental philosophy adapts empirical methods from the social sciences and the digital humanities to address philosophical problems. UEA is a hub of experimental philosophy, at the heart of several national and international collaborations.

UEA-based research has been instrumental in expanding the philosophical reach and the methodological repertoire of experimental philosophy. Group members contribute to fields including the experimental philosophies of mind and language, moral psychology, environmental philosophy, epistemology, and aesthetics. Group members have pioneered the use of qualitative, corpus, and psycholinguistic methods in the field.

We convene the monthly online UK Experimental Philosophy Workshop (UK X-PHI @ UEA) as well as regular internal seminars. We support several PhD projects in the area. We offer graduate training through dedicated Experimental Philosophy pathways of the Master of Research (MRes) in Social Science Research Methods and the MRes in Philosophy.
